I grew up in a large home at the highest point of my home city. When
I was very young, I climbed the evergreen tree next our home to wish upon a star.
As I lay cradled in the top most branches near dusk, I waited and I watched as my bright new star appeared
directly overhead, and I wished upon it, "Star
light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might, I wish this wish
would come true tonight. I wish — I was as Superman!"
The next evening, I once again lay ready, cradled, and held in the top most branches of the evergreen,
as if in a giants hand; comfortable and at ease, and, I wished, "Star
light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might, I wish this wish
would come true tonight. I wish — I was the king of the world!"
On the third evening, I brought a flashlight with me; and I waited, and I watched
for the first and the brightest in the sky, and when it appeared, I wished, "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may,
I wish I might, I wish this wish would come true tonight. I
wish — I knew everything!"
